Advertising Trend: Nudity a.k.a. Nakedity™

It's that time again when you see so many general market ads follow the same trend. Every so often as if on cue they all just sorta fall in line. Perhaps not intentionally or it could be joke du jour, but its worthy of noting. They begin to resemble the march of the advertising penguins. We've seen gnomes along with various lawn animals, bears and even penguin. The latest trend to be unwrapped is "Bare-assedness." You have the perennial parade of some pretty, some pale and some pasty parts to preview every where you turn.

Dorito's dude dippers.

Airline airbrushed asses.

Tabasco tidbit tacklers.

The Nike no-show niblets.

The funny thing is I've been pitching a nakedity™ campaign to a client myself. (You know who you are) They aren't having any of it.
I'm not mad at the gen market agencies, if sex sells it -- nakedity nails it. Beside a lot of African American shops (I'm guilty as hell) have been steadily pumping jazz bands, poetry slams, family reunions & cookouts for years. Oh and I can't leave out what is known as the B.A.H. (Big Ass Head) ad in the ethnic hair car industry. https://sites.google.com/site/mayuradocs/PinIt.png

The Marines: General Market vs. African American

White creative teams are all like " ... a life of courage and a commitment to something greater than themselves..." and let's use some classical sounding horns with a funky slow blues beat as not to be too... well you know white.

Black creative teams are all like "... don't quit, if you quit now you'll always quit in life..." let's exploit that whole black people can't swim thing. Oh yeah, let's have a recollection of some that ol' Louis Gosset Jr. drill sergeant riding his ass, for good measure.

Heineken? Looks like Guiness

Isn't Heineken in a green bottle?
That's all I'm sayin'. https://sites.google.com/site/mayuradocs/PinIt.png

Be Yezzie!

The TV spots are so much better than the print. In spite of the campy technique employed, the print ad doesn't seem to encapsulate the concept at all.

Baby Phat Farm Ultra Lux

The Simmons conglomerate U.S. Hip Hop megalomaniacal corp has been going all super uppity hyper luxury on us for some time now. This latest effort is no different. This was a great angle perfected by Diddy and others in the late 90's. It began to wane in the mid 2000's due to the punch of (post grunge) deep Hip Hop fashion. Of late the economy has drained the few remaining dollars out of the fake rich fashion set. The slick photography and trademark quasi-editorial style of this campaign may have lost some of it's influence but, it's a classic cliche that will always return to vogue. Americans will always want to appear richer than they are. So as soon as we get through this government sponsored wealth/power grab ass session and the trickle down economics resumes, we will once again shop like there's no tomorrow and the Simmons, well, their rich asses will be waiting for us on the other side of this recession with rhinestone labeled garb just your size. https://sites.google.com/site/mayuradocs/PinIt.png

Everyskin, everyday E45 lotion

These are interesting. I could see this done with every shade African American skin from High yella, "my mama was French and Indian" to Deep ebon, first human black. Looks like I'm going have to steal this concept. I'll do it! (oh, like you haven't done it) I will bite these for one of my clients. That's right I said it, I'll bite it like Ozzy Osbourne on a bats ass! I'm really going for the whole good artist borrow but, great artist snack on bat ass, or something like that.

Comments?
I have no credits for this as of yet. If anyone knows who did these I'd love to have that info. Unless I sell it to a client first. At which time I will remove this post and proclaim my own glorious brilliance. https://sites.google.com/site/mayuradocs/PinIt.png

Pioneer People

These are disturbingly lovely and somewhat creepy. I find there is always a willingness to mutilate black people in ads (more on this later). It's kind of like that old adage that some black people have about "a black man is always the first to die in a movie." Both model images were grafted onto in some way but the black image feels a little more painful.
Oh! Note the black man = jazz cliché... uh-huh.
