Nancy Scola over at TechPresident points out,
Texting HAITI to 90999 sends ten U.S. dollars to the Red Cross. It's been so successful that the Red Cross has raised $3,000,000 alone in mobile donations. This obvious boon has made them announce about 3 hours ago they've upped their pledge from $200,000 yesterday to $10 million today.
I don't have numbers yet for YELÉ Haiti, but the donations are pouring in for them as well. If you do the same with YELE to 501501, $5 go to the YELÉHaiti Foundation, Wyclef Jean's organization for humanitarian and community development in Haiti.
But I think it's Paschal Bernard's comment over at Twitter that best captures the success of mobile giving:Aside f/the obvious humanitarianism, can I speak on how on point @Wyclef's game is? Donating to YeleHaiti was easier than checking my minutes.
Indeed.
