Is this a good ad?

All the bases are covered.
Black model - Check
Psuedo-slang - Check
Aspirational - Check
He paid his bill - Check
He's getting his chill on - Check.
Is the ad missing anything? Could it be more... something? Hmmm? https://sites.google.com/site/mayuradocs/PinIt.png

Yes. This ad has covered it all. Love the simplicity. It's a fantastic spin on the "Black" ideology of what constitutes a "Baller"! In my opinion, he's "Ball'in, in control! Something that is attainable and very wise & practical. C.B., create a Kiss my black ads "moon man" Award of sorts to give to the outstanding ads we do like. Levalentino (a.k.a. J.W.)

the first line of copy is clumsy. seems like the comma is not needed.

and the obligatory use of the word "style" overdoes it.

I so agree with the word style! It appears in practically every ad I have ever done on the AA side of things! I wish I could blame it all on the client. Sometimes I will supplant copy with that very word to get concepts/copy approved. :(

Not really. There's nothing aboot it that would stop me while flipping through a mag.

There could've ben a stronger emotional connection, i guess.

Like picking up the tab for mom and pops... or his new white girlfriend.

Missing is he is picking up the tab - while on his way to CHURCH during his FAMILY REUNION (his matching tshirt is underneath). As he is walking out he passes a young person not unlike himself when he was on the grind/hustle/come up with a demo tape. He acknowledges him and the young man aspirationally looks at him with awe. If a TV execution, add a neo soul or smoothed out R&B beat and the gravely Black Male announcer everyone uses.
