Adidas, product as promotion

More and more branding becomes the tired ass buzz word of the day. Some products supersede that precept and become their own self fulfilling promotional prophecy. Adidas is one of those brands. They have unwittingly avoided the over exposure trap that Nike has waddled in for years. So much so that Nike has become (in the States at least) very reliant upon their advertising. Adidas has remained positioned at a space where they are still a pleasant surprise to see. The shoes still have a classic air that Nike's throwback "Dunks" can only seem to muster amongst it's fanatics.
It would be interesting to see another brand, like say a health and beauty brand inspire that same feeling of classic & nostalgic, with a modern twist.
