It is normally talentless hacks who have this problem. Truly talented creative people are still getting jobs. Going to school for design means nothing if you don't have the mind of a designer. Learn to differentiate yourself from other candidates by being creative. I have yet to see someone who was extremely and majorly talented out of work. It is mostly mediocre and less than stellar people who are finding it hard to get a job. I know a lot of people with BFAs in design working Starbucks and at Home Depot and one quick run through their portfolio is all you need to see to understand why.
