Black hair care advertising has change very little since the 80's or the 1920's for that matter. It's all about long, strong classy-ass hair. I'm so guilty of this folly. Dammit, I herby pledge to do something new! They use the same language, the same type of imagery and are still devoid of concepts. Oh yeah the still refuse to budget for real music.
These were taken from airings of Soul Train. All of them ran from 1980 to 1986.

Curly? Straight? Who cares as long as it's not natural. (Im being facetious).
I used to have a curl in 87 & it was the driest afro curl in Detroit. It was most definitely crackish looking no matter who much juice I put in it.
Wow!
Did anyone catch Stacey Dash in that second commercial? LOL
SamilleJanelle, OMD, that really was/is Stacy Dash!
That's the Thriller girl in the first one.
Did I mention I really wanted a classy curl in the 80's.
Was that Stacey Dash?! ... wow no one was safe from the jheri curl
*waves at JR!!* Lord have mercy, lol!! Yeah the commercials haven't changed much.
Those hair styles need to stay in the '80s (and my early childhood memories) where they belong. XD
