African Modern is a design aesthetic I've been following, practicing for a couple of years now. I'm trying to see where I can take it personally. It's a bit of an oxymoron since African art has influenced and fed modern for some time now. Now there is a big resurgence of African sculpture and other art forms, maybe there's an opportunity to get more traction behind this idea. https://sites.google.com/site/mayuradocs/PinIt.png

I understand what you mean...being an African-American designer (...actually Ghanaian-American) you are always trying to define your own voice...AfroMod or AfriModern could be that movement.
I have lived with and suffered with Scandinavian and Italian Modern and Art Deco, the International Style and the I borrowed (stole) from Africa for years. In school I was pelted with greek/roman empirism. This was during the 70's when Black awareness was the rage, I greatly protested and resisted. I always thought there should be an African Modern Style. I fully endorse such a movement.
They have not witnessed the full fury of African Design yet. We as Black designers and artist have not weighed in as a force, an influence yes, a force not yet.
